Chapter 13

1 IN the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam the son of Nebat Abijah began to reign over the tribe of Judah.

2 He reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maachah the daughter of Uriel of Ramtha.

3 And Abijah mobilized an army of valiant men of war, four hundred thousand young men, who took upon themselves to go and fight against Jeroboam the son of Nebat. And Jeroboam also had mobilized an army, and he came to fight against him with eight hundred thousand young men, being mighty men of valour.

4 And Abijah stood up upon mount Zemaraim, which is in the border of mount Ephraim, and said. Hear me, O Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and all Israel;

5 Perhaps you know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant pertaining to the kingship.

6 Yet Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up and rebelled against his lord.

7 And he gathered to him certain wicked men, the children of iniquity, and he prevailed against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and not advanced in years and did not know what to say, and did not comfort the people concerning the heavy yoke which Solomon his father had laid upon them.

8 And even now what can you say? You went away and renounced the kingdom of the house of David and went and served dead gods. And I reign over a single tribe, but you over many tribes, and there are with you golden calves which Jeroboam the son of Nebat made for you.

9 And you have cast out the priests the sons of Aaron and the Levites, and have made priests for yourselves of the people of the land. And whosoever comes to offer an offering, you take from him a young bullock and seven rams, and he becomes a priest of them that are not gods.

10 But as for us, we have not forsaken the LORD our God, and the priests, who minister to the LORD, are the sons of Aaron, and the Levites serve as they should;

11 They offer to the LORD every morning and every evening burnt offering and sweet incense, and set the shewbread in order upon the pure table; and the candlestick of gold with its lamps, and a boy having charge of the lamps lights them every evening; thus we have charge of the ordinances of the LORD our God;

12 But you have forsaken him and have gone after dead gods, and you serve them and worship them; and have forsaken the LORD God of your fathers, therefore you shall not prosper in the world.

13 But Jeroboam caused an ambush to come about behind them; so they were before Judah, and the ambush was behind them.

14 And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind; and they cried unto the LORD, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.

15 And it came to pass when the men of the house of Judah shouted, the LORD defeated Jeroboam the son of Nebat and all Israel before Judah and Abijah.

16 And the children of Israel fled before Judah;

17 And Abijah slew them with a great slaughter; so there fell slain of Israel five hundred thousand young men.

18 Thus the children of Israel were defeated at that time. and the children of Judah prevailed, because they said, We rely upon the LORD God of our fathers.

19 And Abijah pursued Jeroboam, and took some great cities from him, Beth-el with its pastures, Shelah with its pastures, and Ephron with its pastures.

20 Neither did Jereboam recover strength again in the days of Abijah; and the LORD struck Jeroboam, and he died.

21 But Abijah became strong, and he married fourteen wives, and there were born to him twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters.

22 And the rest of the acts of Abijah and his ways, behold, are written in the poems of the prophet Iddo.

1 В восемнадцатый год правления царя Иеровоама в Израиле Авия стал царем Иудеи.

2 Он царствовал три года в Иерусалиме. Мать его Мааха была дочерью Уриэля из Гивы. Между Авией и Иеровоамом шла война.

3 Авия собрал на войну отборное войско — четыреста тысяч лучших воинов. Иеровоам вышел воевать против него с войском в восемьсот тысяч отборных воинов.

4 Авия встал на вершине горы Цемараим в нагорье Ефремовом и сказал: «Слушай меня, Иеровоам и весь Израиль!

5 Разве не знаете вы, что ГОСПОДЬ, Бог Израилев, дал Давиду царскую власть над всем Израилем навеки — дал ему и потомкам его — по Завету, по договору, скрепленному солью?!

6 Иеровоам, сын Невата, был слугой Соломона, сына Давида. Но восстал он против своего владыки.

7 Собрались вокруг него негодные и недостойные люди и бросили вызов Ровоаму, сыну Соломона. Ровоам же был неопытен и нерешителен и не мог им противостоять.

8 Теперь вы вознамерились выступить против царства ГОСПОДНЕГО, что доверено потомкам Давида, потому что вас — несметные полчища и есть у вас золотые тельцы, которых Иеровоам дал вам вместо Бога!

9 Не вы ли изгнали священников ГОСПОДА, сынов Аароновых и левитов, и назначили, подобно прочим народам земли, своих собственных жрецов? У вас всякий может быть посвящен в жрецы вашим лжебогам — достаточно принести с собой тельца и семерых баранов!

10 А наш Бог — ГОСПОДЬ! И мы не оставили Его! Священники наши, что служат пред ГОСПОДОМ, — все потомки Аарона, и лишь левиты имеют право помогать им.

11 Они совершают всесожжения и воскуряют благовония каждое утро и каждый вечер, постоянно обновляют священные хлебы, что кладут пред Богом на чистый стол, зажигают золотой светильник и лампы его каждый вечер. Мы в точности исполняем волю ГОСПОДА, Бога нашего, а вы оставили Его.

12 Вы видите, нас ведет за собою Бог! И есть у священников Его громкие трубы, чтобы призвать на битву против вас! О сыны Израилевы! Не идите против ГОСПОДА, Бога отцов ваших, не будет в этом у вас успеха».

13 Иеровоам тем временем послал воинов в засаду, чтобы они зашли с тыла; таким образом, сам он стоял перед иудеями, а позади них был отряд, посланный в засаду.

14 Когда иудеи повернулись и увидели, что на них нападают и спереди и сзади, они воззвали к ГОСПОДУ, и священники затрубили в свои трубы.

15 Иудеи издали боевой клич, и, когда клич раздался, Бог разбил Иеровоама и всех израильтян на глазах у Авии и всех иудеев.

16 Израильтяне обратились в бегство, преследуемые иудеями, и Бог предал израильтян в руки иудеев.

17 Авия со своим войском нанес израильтянам тяжкое поражение; пятьсот тысяч лучших воинов потеряли израильтяне в той битве.

18 Так израильтяне были покорены иудеями, а жители Иудеи торжествовали, потому что они полагались на ГОСПОДА, Бога отцов их.

19 Авия преследовал Иеровоама и захватил несколько его городов: Бет-Эль с его окрестными селениями, Ешану с его окрестными селениями и Эфрон с его окрестными селениями.

20 Иеровоам не смог достичь былого могущества при Авии. ГОСПОДЬ поразил его, и он умер.

21 Авия же усиливался. У него было четырнадцать жен, от которых у него родились двадцать два сына и шестнадцать дочерей.

22 Остальные события в царствование Авии, слова его и дела записаны в повествовании пророка Иддо.

1 IN the eighteenth year of King Jeroboam the son of Nebat Abijah began to reign over the tribe of Judah.

2 He reigned three years in Jerusalem. His mother's name was Maachah the daughter of Uriel of Ramtha.

2 Он царствовал три года в Иерусалиме. Мать его Мааха была дочерью Уриэля из Гивы. Между Авией и Иеровоамом шла война.

3 And Abijah mobilized an army of valiant men of war, four hundred thousand young men, who took upon themselves to go and fight against Jeroboam the son of Nebat. And Jeroboam also had mobilized an army, and he came to fight against him with eight hundred thousand young men, being mighty men of valour.

3 Авия собрал на войну отборное войско — четыреста тысяч лучших воинов. Иеровоам вышел воевать против него с войском в восемьсот тысяч отборных воинов.

4 And Abijah stood up upon mount Zemaraim, which is in the border of mount Ephraim, and said. Hear me, O Jeroboam the son of Nebat, and all Israel;

4 Авия встал на вершине горы Цемараим в нагорье Ефремовом и сказал: «Слушай меня, Иеровоам и весь Израиль!

5 Perhaps you know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant pertaining to the kingship.

5 Разве не знаете вы, что ГОСПОДЬ, Бог Израилев, дал Давиду царскую власть над всем Израилем навеки — дал ему и потомкам его — по Завету, по договору, скрепленному солью?!

7 Собрались вокруг него негодные и недостойные люди и бросили вызов Ровоаму, сыну Соломона. Ровоам же был неопытен и нерешителен и не мог им противостоять.

8 And even now what can you say? You went away and renounced the kingdom of the house of David and went and served dead gods. And I reign over a single tribe, but you over many tribes, and there are with you golden calves which Jeroboam the son of Nebat made for you.

8 Теперь вы вознамерились выступить против царства ГОСПОДНЕГО, что доверено потомкам Давида, потому что вас — несметные полчища и есть у вас золотые тельцы, которых Иеровоам дал вам вместо Бога!

9 And you have cast out the priests the sons of Aaron and the Levites, and have made priests for yourselves of the people of the land. And whosoever comes to offer an offering, you take from him a young bullock and seven rams, and he becomes a priest of them that are not gods.

10 А наш Бог — ГОСПОДЬ! И мы не оставили Его! Священники наши, что служат пред ГОСПОДОМ, — все потомки Аарона, и лишь левиты имеют право помогать им.

11 Они совершают всесожжения и воскуряют благовония каждое утро и каждый вечер, постоянно обновляют священные хлебы, что кладут пред Богом на чистый стол, зажигают золотой светильник и лампы его каждый вечер. Мы в точности исполняем волю ГОСПОДА, Бога нашего, а вы оставили Его.

12 But you have forsaken him and have gone after dead gods, and you serve them and worship them; and have forsaken the LORD God of your fathers, therefore you shall not prosper in the world.

12 Вы видите, нас ведет за собою Бог! И есть у священников Его громкие трубы, чтобы призвать на битву против вас! О сыны Израилевы! Не идите против ГОСПОДА, Бога отцов ваших, не будет в этом у вас успеха».

13 But Jeroboam caused an ambush to come about behind them; so they were before Judah, and the ambush was behind them.

13 Иеровоам тем временем послал воинов в засаду, чтобы они зашли с тыла; таким образом, сам он стоял перед иудеями, а позади них был отряд, посланный в засаду.

14 And when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind; and they cried unto the LORD, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.

15 And it came to pass when the men of the house of Judah shouted, the LORD defeated Jeroboam the son of Nebat and all Israel before Judah and Abijah.

15 Иудеи издали боевой клич, и, когда клич раздался, Бог разбил Иеровоама и всех израильтян на глазах у Авии и всех иудеев.

16 And the children of Israel fled before Judah;

16 Израильтяне обратились в бегство, преследуемые иудеями, и Бог предал израильтян в руки иудеев.

17 And Abijah slew them with a great slaughter; so there fell slain of Israel five hundred thousand young men.

18 Thus the children of Israel were defeated at that time. and the children of Judah prevailed, because they said, We rely upon the LORD God of our fathers.

18 Так израильтяне были покорены иудеями, а жители Иудеи торжествовали, потому что они полагались на ГОСПОДА, Бога отцов их.

19 And Abijah pursued Jeroboam, and took some great cities from him, Beth-el with its pastures, Shelah with its pastures, and Ephron with its pastures.

19 Авия преследовал Иеровоама и захватил несколько его городов: Бет-Эль с его окрестными селениями, Ешану с его окрестными селениями и Эфрон с его окрестными селениями.

20 Neither did Jereboam recover strength again in the days of Abijah; and the LORD struck Jeroboam, and he died.

20 Иеровоам не смог достичь былого могущества при Авии. ГОСПОДЬ поразил его, и он умер.
